“The training available here is just brilliant.”

Tell us about your role. What do you get up to on a typical day/week?
Every single day is different. Most of the time I visit patients for insulin administration and wound care, and often for injections, palliative support and generally to help them with their daily activities of living.

What’s the best thing about working in the community? What made you choose this kind of work?
The training available here is just brilliant. On top of that, I found community working very flexible and with the hours that suits my family life. It is very helpful to receive your rota 3 months in advance and the skills you can achieve out here are amazing.

Describe the working culture here?
Everyone working for BCH is so nice and friendly. People are happy to help you with anything and explain anything you are not sure about which was very important for me as a newly qualified.
-
What do you think makes someone successful here?
Anyone can succeed here as long as they are responsible and caring individuals.
-
Tell us about the learning and development and career progression opportunities?
I have recently completed the preceptorship program which was excellent. On top of that you can book yourself onto almost any training you like as long as you can apply it in practice. With career progression you can become a Band 6 nurse and a team leader and BCH send nurses for prescribing courses as well when needed.
-
What’s the most rewarding thing about your role?
To be able to take part in people’s lives, be there when a patient is at end of life, support someone who has nobody else to talk to. I am also really proud to be a part of such a great team of healthcare professionals working here in Fishponds.

What do you think patients would say about the service you provide?
My patients usually tell me that I am a very caring and friendly nurse. They are always so grateful for things we help them with and happy with the quality of service I provide.
