  • Tell us about your role. What do you get up to on a typical day/week?

    My role is all about data! As an organisation we collect and use a lot of clinical and corporate data. The job of my team is to translate that data into something meaningful. My typical week involves working closely with our performance team and central services to understand what questions the organization needs to answer. Our challenge is then to look at the data, write scripts to interrogate it and provide them with the answers. Our job however doesn’t stop there. Once we’ve found the answer we need to present it in an intuitive way and a lot of our time is spent designing dashboards to provide further insights for the customer.

  • What’s the best thing about working at BCH? What motivated you to join the organisation?

    The best thing about BCH is that there is freedom to innovate. Working within informatics, the pace of change is rapid with new technologies being brought into the market all the time. BCH aren’t afraid to embrace new technology and within the business intelligence team that allows us to utilize that very latest analytical software to understand our business.

  • Describe the working culture here?

    The culture at BCH is great. There is a real culture of unity and solidarity. We all support each other and there are great friendships within the teams. Everybody will make time to assist you and many people go above and beyond to ensure that a job is well done.

  • What do you think makes someone successful here?

    People who have a passion for helping and seeing the bigger picture. Even within central services it helps to have a perspective of why you are here. Our primary purpose is to improve the lives of the patients we serve and having this in mind in your day to day work is essential.

  • Tell us about the learning and development and career progression opportunities?

    BCH recognises that there is a need to develop staff in order to get the best out of them. Within my team it is essential to stay on top of any changing technology and also ensure that we have consistency across the team. BCH therefore has supported accredited Microsoft training for the team to ensure that we are the best that we can be.

  • What’s the most rewarding thing about your role?

    The most rewarding thing about my role is seeing the lightbulb moment. Whether it be a highly complex piece of work or a small training tip, that moment when you see someone understand and learn from what you are telling them gives me an immense sense of satisfaction.

  • What do you think employees would say about the service you provide?

    People would say that the Business Intelligence team are integral in improving the way the organisation functions. Without the data we provide we cannot have truly informed decision making.
