Medicines Management Team Leader – Band 6

Looking for a Pharmacy role that’s different from all others?

If so, and you’re a registered and experienced Pharmacy Technician or Nurse, look no further – you’ll find with us in the Healthcare Team at HMP Bristol. Because all good healthcare staff should go to prison…

The Role and what you’ll do

As one of our Medicines Management Team Leaders, you’ll lead a multi-disciplinary team to facilitate administration of medicines and prescription pathways. In doing so you’ll help the team in the safe administering, storage and management of medication for HMP Bristol’s patients. You’ll also be invovled in helping senior managers develop and manage the prison healthcare agenda, that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are adhered to, and generally ensuring that the department and the team operates to the very best of its capacity.

However, this is not a “hands-off” role. You’ll serve not only as a manager – in supervising, training, and supporting the team under your guidance – but critically you’ll also be a hands-on clinician within HMP Bristol, working alongside your team to provide clinical supervision, advice to patient about their medicines, and full implementation of high quality patient care.

In doing so, you’ll become a vital point of contact for patients in HMP Bristol – you’ll empower the prison’s population to understand their medicines better, and critically manage their own self-care in regards to their long-term health.

For a full job description and person specification, please see the Role Profile attached.

What we’d like from you

This isn’t a job for everyone. You’ll need to be non-judgemental, resilient, and dedicated. As well as being a registered Nurse or Pharmacy Technician, you’ll possess extensive medicines management/pharmacy experience, as well as experience of managing/supervising staff in a clinical setting.

Please note that should you be successful you will also be required to undertake prison security vetting, in addition to a DBS Check.

In return, you’ll be rewarded through being part of a wider healthcare team that delivers care beyond health – in helping educate your patients to make better life choices, in turn reducing the likelihood of reoffending. This is a real opportunity to gain unique experience and to develop your Pharmacy career to the next level.

There’s other perks. On top of your basic salary, ranging from £30,401 to £37,267 (dependent on experience), you’ll also earn a Secure Environment Allowance of £1,250 per annum. Additionally there’s opportunities for learning and development, access to HMP Bristol’s staff-only café,a choice of attractive pension schemes (including the NHS Scheme), and more.

About Bristol Community Health

Bristol Community Health care a not-for-profit social enterprise, that delivers NHS high-quality healthcare services across the South-West. As well as healthcare within prisons, we help communities through end-of-life care, school nursing, diabetes support, physiotherapy and many more services. In doing so, we focus on improving healthcare in the community for the benefit of all.

We’re proud that we’re a Community Interest Company (CIC) and not-for-profit social enterprise. As a social enterprise, we trade for social and environmental benefit. Our profits are not distributed to shareholders, but are rather re-invested back into our organisation to consistently improve upon the services we provide – re-investment that will help people live healthier lives.

Because we’re a social enterprise, we can be more flexible in our approach. We also welcome innovation which helps us to deliver better care – for example, all of our community nurses use mobile working, which reduces bureaucracy and frees up time to care. At the same time, we align to the NHS’s Agenda for Change principles, allowing us to offer the attractive pension scheme and the same salary scales that would be expected from NHS organisations.
